Job Description:
Looking for an experienced and highly motivated DBA Lead with 4 years of experience to join our dynamic database management team. As the DBA Lead, you will oversee the performance, integrity, and security of databases, ensuring the availability of data across multiple environments. You will work with various database platforms, manage database architecture, and lead a team of DBAs to ensure smooth database operations. You will be a key player in optimizing database performance, handling complex database queries, and providing critical support across shifts.
This position requires flexibility to work across any shift, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Database Administration: Lead and manage day-to-day database administration activities for large-scale databases (Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, other databases).
- Database Design & Architecture: Collaborate with development and engineering teams to design and implement scalable, secure, and high-performance database solutions.
- Performance Tuning: Perform routine database tuning and optimization to improve query performance, indexing strategies, and storage utilization.
- Backup and Recovery: Establish and manage backup and disaster recovery strategies to ensure high availability and business continuity.
- Security: Implement database security policies, monitor database access, and ensure data encryption and integrity across all databases.
- Database Monitoring & Reporting: Monitor database performance, uptime, and health. Generate and maintain reports on database performance and usage metrics.
- Incident Management: Quickly identify, troubleshoot, and resolve database issues or outages to minimize downtime and ensure optimal system availability.
- Team Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of DBAs, providing guidance on best practices, database management, and performance optimization.
- Automation: Develop and implement scripts and automation tools for routine database management tasks (e.g., backups, monitoring, maintenance).
- Collaboration: Work closely with software development, system administrators, and operations teams to ensure smooth integration of databases into application systems and IT infrastructure.
- Upgrades & Patches: Plan and execute database upgrades, patching, and migrations to ensure databases are running the latest versions with security fixes.
- Documentation: Maintain clear and comprehensive documentation for database processes, configurations, policies, and procedures.
Requirements:
- Experience: Minimum of 4 years of experience in database administration, with strong hands-on experience managing databases in production environments.
- Database Skills:
- Strong experience with relational databases in Oracle and additionally SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, etc..
- Deep understanding of SQL queries, database design, schema management, and stored procedures.
- Experience with database performance tuning and optimization techniques.
- Advanced Knowledge in Linux Operating System.
- Backup and Recovery: Expertise in backup strategies, disaster recovery plans, and tools such as RMAN, Oracle Datapump, etc
- Security: Experience implementing database security best practices, including data encryption, access control, and audit logging.
- Scripting & Automation: Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Bash, PowerShell, Python) for automating database tasks and maintenance.
- Tools & Monitoring: Experience using database monitoring tools (e.g., SQL Developer, PGAdmin, SQL Server Enterprise Manager, Nagios, etc.) to track database performance.
- Shift Flexibility: Willingness to work flexible shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, depending on project and operational needs.
- Problem Solving: Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to diagnose and resolve database issues effectively and quickly.
- Leadership: Proven ability to lead and mentor a team of database administrators, ensuring high-quality database management practices.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with cloud databases (e.g., Oracle, Azure SQL Database).
- Experience with database clustering, replication, and high availability solutions.
- Certifications such as Oracle Certified DBA, Microsoft Certified Database Administrator (MCDBA), or equivalent.
