Arc Welder

Job description

Arc welder job responsibilities include interpreting technical documents, preparing metal surfaces, selecting and operating various arc welding equipment, and joining metal components to create or repair structures and products. Welders also perform quality checks on their work, adhere to strict safety protocols, and maintain their tools and work environment.

Technical and Planning Tasks

1. Blueprint and Diagram Interpretation:Read and understand technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications to determine the correct welding procedures and requirements.
2. Material Preparation:Clean, cut, grind, and prepare metal surfaces using various tools to ensure they are ready for welding.
3. Equipment Selection and Setup:Choose the appropriate welding equipment and settings, such as amperage and voltage, for each job and set up the components for welding.

Welding and Fabrication

1. Arc Welding:Use manual or semi-automatic arc welding equipment to melt and deposit metal from an electrode to join metal parts together.
2. Joining and Repairing:Weld components, pipelines, and structures, and may also repair broken or cracked parts and fill gaps.
3. Position Welding:Perform welding in various positions, including flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead.

Quality and Safety

1. Quality Control:Monitor the welding process to ensure proper depth of fusion and penetration, and inspect finished welds for defects and conformance to specifications.
2. Safety Compliance:Follow strict safety regulations, wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and maintain a clean and safe work environment.
3. Equipment Maintenance:Perform routine maintenance on welding equipment and tools to ensure they are in good working order.

Collaboration and Documentation

1. Teamwork:Coordinate with other workers, such as fitters and supervisors, to complete projects on time and according to specifications.
2. Record Keeping:Accurately track and document job status and other required information.
