Job description

Our organization is expanding its quality assurance capabilities and is looking for a seasoned Automation Test Engineer to strengthen a compact, cross‑functional Agile/Scrum feature team. The team typically consists of five to seven members, including developers, manual testers, product owners, and other specialists. As an Automation Test Engineer, you will report directly to the Design Engineering Testing Lead while maintaining a dotted‑line relationship with the Product/Project Manager. This dual reporting structure ensures that testing priorities are tightly aligned with both technical design and business objectives.

The core of the role revolves around designing, building, and executing robust test strategies that span the entire software delivery lifecycle. You will be responsible for creating comprehensive test plans, detailed test conditions, and reusable test scripts for a variety of test streams, including product testing, integration testing, technical verification, and deployment validation. Your work will cover web applications, web services, and RESTful APIs, requiring a deep understanding of both functional and non‑functional testing aspects.

Beyond day‑to‑day testing activities, you will champion continuous improvement initiatives. By analyzing test metrics and delivery patterns, you will identify bottlenecks, propose tooling enhancements, and streamline processes to increase test efficiency and overall product quality. Your recommendations will be evaluated against Shell’s established standards and frameworks, ensuring compliance while also pushing the envelope for innovation.

Effective communication is a cornerstone of success in this role. You will regularly present test progress, risk findings, and quality metrics to both technical teams and senior management. Whether drafting detailed test documentation or delivering verbal briefings, clarity and precision are essential.

The position demands a proactive mindset and the ability to thrive in ambiguous or rapidly changing environments. You must be comfortable assessing uncertainties, flagging potential risks early, and devising mitigation strategies that keep delivery timelines on track.

Key qualifications include at least seven years of experience in quality assurance, with a minimum of four years dedicated to Selenium‑based automation within a BDD framework. Proficiency in Python, a solid grasp of the software development lifecycle, and hands‑on experience with manual testing are mandatory. Familiarity with source control systems such as Git or TFS, SQL querying, and Salesforce platforms is considered advantageous.

In return, you will join a forward‑thinking team that values technical excellence, collaborative problem solving, and a relentless focus on delivering high‑quality software solutions. If you are passionate about automation, enjoy working in a dynamic Agile environment, and are eager to influence testing practices at scale, we encourage you to apply.
