The Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC) Manager plays a pivotal role in safeguarding product integrity and ensuring that every deliverable meets the highest standards of quality and safety. Reporting directly to the Vice President of Operations, this senior professional is entrusted with the strategic oversight of the entire QA/QC function, from planning and scheduling inspections to leading a multidisciplinary team of engineers, inspectors, and technicians.
In this capacity, the manager will design and maintain a comprehensive quality management system that aligns with both internal objectives and external client requirements. This includes the creation of detailed inspection schedules that coordinate with project timelines, ensuring that critical checkpoints are met without causing delays. The manager will also be the primary point of contact for any quality deviations, customer complaints, or field issues, taking swift corrective action to mitigate risk and preserve client confidence.
Key responsibilities extend to the rigorous review of all customer specifications, purchase orders, and contractual documents. By verifying that each requirement is fully understood and incorporated into the project plan, the manager helps prevent costly rework and enhances overall project efficiency. The role also involves the certification and approval of essential quality documents such as Project Quality Requirements (PQR), Welding Procedure Qualifications (WPQ), and the overarching Quality Assurance Plan. These documents serve as the blueprint for quality execution across the organization.
Leadership is a core component of the position. The manager will mentor and develop the QA/QC team, conducting performance measurements, identifying skill gaps, and delivering targeted training programs. This includes overseeing the certification process for Non‑Destructive Examination (NDE) personnel at both Level I and Level II, ensuring that the team possesses the technical competence required for advanced testing methods such as penetrant testing (PT), radiographic testing (RT), ultrasonic testing (UT), and magnetic particle testing (MP).
Operational excellence is achieved through meticulous documentation and control of procedures. The manager will prepare, review, and approve Inspection Test Plans (ITP) and NDE examination procedures, guaranteeing that each step of the inspection process is clearly defined and traceable. Additionally, the manager will manage the assignment of Non‑Destructive Examination numbers, certify material data reports (MDR) and material property data reports (MPDR), and ensure proper registration with relevant certification bodies.
Auditing and compliance are integral to the role. The manager will lead internal QA/QC audits, coordinate quality certification audits, and facilitate customer audits, providing transparent evidence of the organization’s commitment to quality standards. By conducting thorough root‑cause analyses of non‑conformities, the manager will develop and implement corrective and preventive actions that drive continuous improvement and reduce the incidence of defects.
Beyond technical responsibilities, the manager must excel in stakeholder management. This includes negotiating with clients, third‑party inspection agencies (TPIA), and vendors to resolve issues, secure approvals, and maintain strong professional relationships. Effective communication skills are essential for presenting findings, influencing decisions, and ensuring that all parties are aligned with the project’s quality objectives.
Safety and regulatory compliance are non‑negotiable. The manager will champion a safe work environment, ensuring that all QA/QC activities adhere to health, safety, and environmental regulations. This proactive approach minimizes workplace hazards and reinforces the organization’s reputation as a responsible employer.
To succeed in this role, candidates must possess a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering, complemented by at least ten years of progressive experience in quality assurance and control within a manufacturing or engineering setting. Professional certifications such as ASNT SNT TC‑1A Level‑II in PT, RT, UT, and MP are required, along with demonstrated expertise in ERP systems, instrument calibration, and the preparation of technical documentation.
The ideal candidate will bring a blend of technical acumen, strategic thinking, and inspirational leadership. By fostering a culture of zero defects and continuous improvement, the QA/QC Manager will directly contribute to the organization’s reputation for delivering high‑quality products on time and within budget.
