Job description

Our development team is expanding and we need a seasoned PHP professional who can take ownership of complex web solutions from concept through production. In this role you will work remotely, collaborating daily with product managers, UI/UX designers, and fellow engineers using Agile ceremonies such as sprint planning, daily stand‑ups, and retrospectives. You will be responsible for translating business requirements into clean, maintainable code while adhering to architectural guidelines that prioritize scalability, security, and performance.

The core of your work will involve building server‑side logic using core PHP, leveraging object‑oriented patterns to keep the codebase modular and testable. You will design and expose RESTful endpoints that power front‑end applications and third‑party integrations. A deep understanding of PHP's synchronous execution model will enable you to write efficient scripts that handle high‑traffic scenarios without unnecessary blocking.

Front‑end integration is a critical component of the position. You will work closely with UI engineers to embed interactive maps using Leaflet and Google Maps API, manipulate data with JavaScript and jQuery, and ensure that JSON payloads are correctly formatted and validated. Your expertise in HTML5 and CSS3 will help guarantee that the user experience meets modern accessibility standards, including WCAG compliance.

Security is non‑negotiable. You will conduct threat modeling, implement robust authentication and authorization flows across multiple environments, and stay current on common web server exploits such as SQL injection, XSS, and CSRF. When vulnerabilities are identified, you will devise and apply remediation strategies, documenting the solutions for future reference.

Scalability considerations will guide many of your architectural decisions. You will evaluate load‑balancing options, caching mechanisms, and database sharding techniques to ensure that applications can grow with user demand. Integration of heterogeneous data sources—whether relational databases, NoSQL stores, or external APIs—will be part of your daily routine, requiring careful mapping of schemas and data transformation logic.

Because PHP has known limitations, you will be expected to apply creative workarounds, such as using asynchronous processing queues, leveraging PHP-FPM tuning parameters, or incorporating micro‑service patterns where appropriate. Your ability to diagnose performance bottlenecks and propose optimizations will directly impact system reliability.

Beyond technical duties, you will mentor junior developers, lead code reviews, and champion best practices across the team. Documentation is a key deliverable; you will maintain up‑to‑date architectural diagrams, API specifications, and deployment guides to facilitate knowledge sharing.

Success in this role will be measured by the stability of the platforms you own, the speed at which new features are delivered, and the confidence the organization has in the security posture of your code. If you thrive in a remote, fast‑paced environment and enjoy solving complex technical challenges, we invite you to join our team.
